About Daniel

Daniel’s sailing journey
Daniel Escudero’s sailing journey began at age 14 in Ontario, Canada, where he first sailed Lasers at the Bay of Quinte Yacht Club. After relocating to Peachtree City, Georgia, he continued sailing at the Atlanta Yacht Club on Lake Allatoona. Daniel joined the Lauderdale Yacht Club Race Team, traveling from Atlanta to Ft. Lauderdale for weekend practices. His dedication paid off, and within two years, he ascended to the top of the ILCA6 youth fleet, earning a spot on the US Sailing Olympic Development Team.
Upon graduating high school, Daniel enrolled at Webb Institute, where he pursued a dual BSc. in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. Balancing rigorous academics with competitive sailing, he transitioned into the ILCA7 class, the Olympic standard. In 2023, Daniel took a gap year to fully commit to his Olympic aspirations, training and competing full-time across Europe. Despite the challenges of starting his campaign late, he achieved a 5th place finish at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials in 2024.
Daniel’s resilience and determination have led to significant accomplishments, including victories at the 2024 ILCA7 North American Championships and Webb’s first ever national championship win, the 2024 College Sailing Open Singlehanded National Championships, where he secured the Glen S. Foster Trophy. As a leading contender in the ILCA7 class, he continues to train and compete, Daniel remains focused on his goal: to qualify for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles and earn the USA’s first medal in the ILCA7 class.
Daniel has been a member of Atlanta Yacht Club for almost 10 years and recently became a member of the American Yacht Club, and alongside his studies, international traveling, and sailing, he has been actively participating in AYC regattas, frostbiting, and running weekly ILCA clinics.
Daniel has a US Sailing Level 1 coaching certification.
